Infringement can not be avoided by crediting the source. Plagiarism and copyright infringement are two distinct concepts. The act of misappropriating someone else's work and passing it off as your own is known as plagiarism. Even when you do not replicate the words, you can plagiarize a work without violating the copyright if, for instance, you borrow from a work whose copyright has expired or you use someone else's ideas without giving them the required credit. On the other hand, it is possible to infringe without copying. Liability for infringement is still present even though you properly credit the work you are duplicating.

Copyright is a type of legal defense given by defaults to creators to protect their works. In many countries, such as USA and Australia, you obtain copyright protection for your work without registering it.
